The 2025 NFL Scouting Combine has been in full effect this week.
Running backs took the podiums on Friday to speak to media members in attendance. The Indianapolis Colts might have their starter in the backfield in place, but the room behind him needs a complete makeover. Luckily for them, the RB class in the 2025 NFL Draft is filled with talent. And three players in particular stand out as options that the Colts would be wise to target.
Top 3 RBs the Colts should target in the 2025 NFL Draft
RJ Harvey, UCF
UCF’s RJ Harvey is coming off two very productive years to finish his college career with 1,416 yards and 16 touchdowns in 2023 and 1,577 yards and 22 touchdowns in 2024. He has shown the ability to be a productive pass catcher and has excelled as a pass protector, even at his small size.
Harvey would perfectly suit the Colts’ needs in the RB room. Early in his career, he could play both pass catcher and blocker. He is expected to hear his name called in the early part of day three, either in the fourth or fifth round, which is when the team could consider using a selection on the position.
Ollie Gordon, Oklahoma State
Oklahoma State’s Ollie Gordon is an intriguing prospect. He probably has the second-best season of film of any RB in this class, only behind Ashton Jeanty. The problem is that season came in 2023, not 2024, with him suffering serious production regression. In 2023, he recorded 1,732 yards and 21 touchdowns, but in 2024, he saw his production drop to 880 yards and 13 touchdowns.
At the Scouting Combine, Gordon spoke on his production dip and shared that he felt like defenses focused on him at a much higher rate. And it seems like he and Oklahoma State’s offense struggled to respond to the added attention. Letting him come to the Colts, where he could be the backup to Taylor and use his ability as a pass catcher and run pass blocker, would help him get on the field early in his career. His draft range is tricky to predict because his 2023 film is elite, and it could lead a team to take a shot earlier than some may realize, potentially in round three, but many believe his most likely draft range is in rounds four through six.
TreVeyon Henderson, Ohio State
The dream RB addition to the Colts roster would be Ohio State’s TreVeyon Henderson. His combo of speed and strength at the RB position is unreal and has led to multiple home run plays where he takes life away from the defense.
He could have a legit role as a runner early in his career, but he also might be the best pass blocker at RB in the class. This is a major need for the Colts, as Taylor has struggled in that regard. The only issue about the odds of the Colts landing Henderson is I think he will end up being a second-round pick when the draft arrives. If he was on the board when the Colts get on the clock in the third round, I think he would be a fantastic addition.
