Marc Overmars (51) is unemployed in Antwerp since on January 9, FIFA sanctioned him as a result of the accusations made against him when, while at Ajax Amsterdam, several club employees denounced him for sexual harassment. Now, eight months later, an issue related to his contract with the Belgian club has been revealed.
‘De Telegraaf’ points out that the former Antwerp sporting director, who could resume activity within a month and a half, would have extended his contract last year (it expired in June 2026) until mid-2027. Sven Jaecques, executive director of The entity has confirmed it.
“Marc still comes here regularly for a coffee or a chat, but when we meet here with the agents or the players’ council, I have to send him home. That, of course, frustrates him. Marc is a football animal.” . Jaecques justifies that the Dutchman’s contract extension was not a gift to compensate for the suspension.
