Former Texas wide receiver Isaiah Bond entered the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine with big expectations for himself. So much so, that on Friday he proudly declared that he was going to break the 40-yard dash time record and might possibly post a 4.1- or 4.2-second time.
When it came time to run on Saturday, he did not exactly back up those expectations.
Not only did he not set the record, he was not even the fastest wide receiver.
He wasn’t even the fastest wide receiver from Texas.
Bond ended up posting a 4.39 official time on his second attempt after running it in 4.41 on his first attempt.
It is important to keep a few things in mind here.
For one, a 4.40 time in the 40-yard dash is still incredibly fast. So we are definitely not talking about a slow person here. Only three wide receivers posted a faster time at the combine this season, including his teammate, Matthew Golden, who led the way at 4.29.
But as fast as that time is, it is still pretty far away from a 4.1 or 4.2 time, or the record.
Bond figures to be selected somewhere in the first three rounds of the draft and has a chance to be an outstanding player at the next level. Speed is a huge part of his game, and he definitely plays fast. It is simply not a breaking speed.
