Patriots’ Winning Ways Continue: Bear Watching for Former Super Bowl MVP to Keep Momentum Going

Posted on March 14, 2025 by ADMIN

The New England Patriots have made many moves to upgrade the roster in recent days, but one key area remains.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter sees that potentially coming sooner than later as he mentioned the Patriots being one of several teams looking into former Super Bowl MVP wide receiver Cooper Kupp. The Los Angeles Rams released Kupp on Wednesday due to no trade partner and the recent signing of Davante Adams.

“Teams that bear watching here include the Seattle Seahawks, the Denver Broncos, and the New England Patriots, amongst others,” Schefter explained during SportsCenter on Thursday.

Kupp still has plenty left after eight seasons with the Rams. He caught 67 passes for 710 yards and six touchdowns in 2024, despite injuries.

Overall, Kupp has had 634 receptions, 7,776 yards, and 57 touchdowns in his career. He eclipsed 1,000 yards only twice, which includes his 1,947-yard career year in 2021, when he also caught 16 touchdowns.

Kupp has been consistent throughout his career, with a 17-game average of 104 catches for 1,271 yards and nine touchdowns. That’s far superior to anyone on the Patriots’ roster, as New England hasn’t enjoyed a 1,000-yard wideout since Julian Edelman in 2019.

For second-year quarterback Drake Maye to make significant progress and eventually lead the Patriots back to Super Bowl contention, adding a go-to wide receiver is a must. Though Kupp has been dealing with injuries in recent years, having him for 10 or more games would make a difference.

Kupp has played at least nine games every season since 2019, including 12 the past two seasons, despite ankle and hamstring injuries since 2021.
