“I Bleed Black and White”: Nick Daicos Turns Down $5M Tasmania Devils Offer to Cement Collingwood Legacy

Melbourne, June 19, 2025 — In a resounding show of loyalty and passion, Collingwood superstar Nick Daicos has reportedly turned down a staggering $5 million offer from the newly-formed Tasmania Devils to reaffirm his commitment to the Magpies, declaring that he plans to “leave Collingwood as a legend.”

The 21-year-old midfield dynamo, widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in the AFL, stunned the football world this morning when he fronted media outside the AIA Centre and confirmed he had rejected a long-term, multimillion-dollar deal to be the face of Tasmania’s new AFL franchise.

“I grew up with black and white in my veins,” Daicos said. “I love this club, this jumper, and these fans. There was never any real thought of leaving. I want to finish what I started here and become one of the greats.”

Devils Tried to Lure Daicos with Mega Offer

Reports emerged earlier this week that Tasmania had tabled an unprecedented five-year, $5 million deal — averaging $1 million per season — in a bold attempt to land Daicos as their inaugural marquee signing ahead of their 2026 debut.

Sources close to the negotiations revealed that the Devils not only offered money but leadership, including the captaincy and a large share in the club’s marketing and branding future.

But the young Magpie, who has already made two All-Australian teams and finished second in the 2024 Brownlow Medal count, was unmoved.

“It’s flattering to be wanted that much, for sure,” Daicos admitted. “But my heart is here. I want to win more premierships with Collingwood. I want to write history here.”

Magpie Army Roars with Joy

Social media exploded with excitement following Daicos’ declaration, with fans praising his loyalty in an era increasingly dominated by big-money moves.

“This is why we love Nick Daicos,” one fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “Talent, class, and loyalty. He’s one of us.”

Even club legend Nathan Buckley chimed in: “Nick is the future of Collingwood. And today he just showed he’s got the character to match the skill.”

Club Reaction

Collingwood President Jeff Browne praised Daicos’ decision as “iconic,” stating: “Nick could’ve chased riches elsewhere, but he chose legacy. That says everything you need to know about the kind of player and person he is.”

Coach Craig McRae added, “He’s a generational player. He sets the standard at training, on game day, and now off the field too. We’re lucky to have him.”

A Legacy in the Making

Nick Daicos has played 67 games for Collingwood since debuting in 2022, quickly rising to become the club’s most influential player. His combination of elite vision, dazzling footwork, and leadership by example has made him a fan favourite and cornerstone of the team’s future.

When asked about his long-term ambitions, Daicos didn’t hesitate.

“I want to win flags. I want to lead. I want to be remembered not just as a good player, but as a Collingwood legend.”

With his loyalty now confirmed and his legacy building, there’s no doubt: the Daicos era is here to stay at the Magpies.
