“It’s the lack of structure, the deviation from the routine, the innovation…that’s what really stands out because it reflects the direction this league is heading,” Johnson remarked regarding Williams. “It appears that no matter how much you wish to have a straightforward progression of one, two, three, there’s simply too much diversity.”

Johnson stated, “The pass rush is decreasing, and having an athlete like Caleb to prolong the play could lead to an explosive opportunity down the field.” That’s what motivates me just a bit. Johnson also criticized the Lions’ defense, remarking that it was tough to see them face certain quarterbacks who escape the pocket. For instance, despite the Lions defeating the Chicago Bears in both of their encounters last season, Williams delivered outstanding performances, passing for 590 yards, five touchdowns, and no interceptions. He additionally rushed 10 times for 73 yards.
“I’ve been in that position before, and I’ve gone through it,” Johnson stated. “It’s disheartening to witness that occurring to your defense from the opposing side.”
Thus, Johnson’s perspective is that it’s harder for a defense to manage a quarterback like Williams compared to a traditional pocket passer like Goff.
