Lester Hayes, a legendary cornerback for the Oakland/Los Angeles Raiders, earned his place in football history with an extraordinary career. A five-time Pro Bowl selection, two-time All-Pro, and two-time Super Bowl winner, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 1980.

Renowned for his distinctive crouched stance that disrupted wide receivers, Hayes also gained fame for using stickum to secure his grip on the ball—until the NFL banned it in 1981 with a rule named after him.
Tied with Willie Brown for the Raiders’ all-time interception record at 39, Hayes had a standout 1980 season with 13 interceptions, tying for the second-most in a single NFL season and the highest in the last four decades.
