Former Bruins Defender Signs Extension With New Team

Posted on May 5, 2025 by ADMIN

Former Boston Bruins defenseman Alec Regula has signed a two-year, two-way contract extension with the Edmonton Oilers. His extension will kick in during the 2025-26 season, and he will carry a $775,000 cap hit at the NHL level.

The Bruins lost Regula through waivers to the Oilers back in December. The 24-year-old defenseman did not play in a single regular-season game at the AHL or NHL level this season, as he was sidelined with a knee injury.

The Bruins acquired Regula during the 2023 NHL off-season from the Chicago Blackhawks in the deal that sent forwards Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno to the Central Division club. The right-shot defenseman then spent the 2023-24 season with Boston’s AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins, where he had four goals, 26 points, and a plus-36 rating.

With how well Regula played for Providence in 2023-24, the hope was that he would eventually make the jump to Boston’s roster. However, after getting injured and then being claimed off waivers by the Oilers, that hope went away. Now, he will look to become a mainstay at the NHL level with the Oilers once he gets healthy after earning this extension.

Regula was selected by the Detroit Red Wings with the 67th overall pick of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. In 22 career NHL games over three seasons, he has one goal, 28 hits, 32 blocks, and a minus-5 rating
