DONE DEAL: Las Vegas Raiders officially trade starting cornerback Jack Jones to New York Jets on a lucrative contract

Raiders Starter Makes It Clear He Wants to Stay in Vegas

The Las Vegas Raiders entered the offseason needing several major changes to become more competitive next year. Owner Mark Davis began that process by hiring Pete Carroll and John Spytek as the team’s next head coach and general manager. There will be plenty of moving pieces within the organization next season as the team rebuilds, most notably the 26 players set to test free agency in the coming weeks. However, starting cornerback Jack Jones has no plans of leaving as he told Good Morning Football last Monday. “Vegas definitely feels like home,” said Jones. “I wouldn’t wanna be anywhere else. I think this year is gonna be a big year, definitely way better than last year.” Las Vegas won only four games in 2024, but coach Carroll has not won less than seven games since his first year as a head coach in 1994. He and the coaching staff he hired are far more experienced and capable than any Raiders staff in recent memory. Spytek spent years as an executive and scout for the Denver Broncos and Tampa Bay Buccaneers when they won Super Bowls. This may be his first season where he is fully in charge, but he has seen first-hand how to build a successful franchise. Jones had 69 combined tackles, three interceptions and 16 passes defended last season, as well as a defensive touchdown, but he also relinquished eight touchdowns in 2024. While he is under contract next season, he was brought in by Antonio Pierce in 2023 and many have considered the idea that the new regime could move on from Jones if they do not appreciate his high-risk, high-reward play style.

Raiders quarterback: Trade for Joe Milton?

Finding a new quarterback is often not easy and sometimes teams need to get creative in an attempt to solve the problem at the most important position on the field.

New Las Vegas Raiders general manager John Spytek has said the team will look at all avenues in its attempt to find a quarterback and new head coach said the team’s competition there will be “widely contested.”

So, it makes sense that if the New England Patriots do, indeed, trade second-year quarterback Joe Milton, the Raiders could consider it. It’s been reported the Patriots are thinking about making Milton, who was drafted in the sixth round out of Tennessee in 2024, available in a trade.

Milton is stuck behind Drake Maye in New England. Milton, who turns 25 soon, looked good in the preseason and played well in a Week 18 win over Buffalo and showcased a rocket arm.

So, he is intriguing. The price tag would likely be a mid-round pick (maybe with some conditions based on production) and Milton is inexpensive with three years left in his rookie contract. So, there are reasons to think this could be a worthwhile pursuit without the guarantee of him becoming a quality starter.
