Browns Bolster Defense: Ex-Titans Cornerback Signs on the Dotted Line
The Cleveland Browns are working to upgrade their secondary this offseason. Early on Monday, the team released safety Juan Thornhill, saving $7 million in cap space.
Later on Monday, the team signed former Tennessee Titans cornerback Anthony Kendall.
The 25-year-old played for the Titans since signing with them as an undrafted free agent in 2023 out of Balwin-Wallace. He impressed the coaching staff enough to make the final 53-man roster and appear in 16 games his rookie season.
He tallied nine total tackles with five solo that season.
He missed out on the final 53 last season and was relegated to the practice squad before joining the Ravens’ practice squad.
He’ll now head to training camp with the Browns with the hope of joining the final 53 in August.
Earlier on Monday, Cleveland released Thornhill in an effort to gain some cap room.
“The Browns are releasing veteran S Juan Thornhill, sources say,” Mike Garafolo reported.”The team and Thornhill’s camp spoke in recent days and the decision was made to part ways now, giving Thornhill a few weeks before free agency to find his next home.”
The entire Browns secondary struggled last season, and according to Pro Football Focus, Thornhill missed 22.6 percent of his tackles.
Cleveland will hope to improve on that immensely in 2025.
