BREAKING: Rams Sign Wide Receiver in Advance of Free Agency

Posted on March 6, 2025 by ADMIN

With Matthew Stafford back in the mix, the Rams are focused on strengthening his receiving corps for the 2025 season. As they continue exploring trade options for Cooper Kupp, the team has reached an agreement with wide receiver Tutu Atwell.

According to Adam Schefter, Atwell’s new deal is a fully guaranteed one-year contract worth $10 million.

The 5-foot-9, 165-pound speedster out of Louisville was the Rams’ first pick in the 2021 draft, selected 57th overall in the second round due to their lack of a first-round selection that year.

Over four seasons, Atwell has been a reliable target in the Rams’ passing attack behind Kupp and, more recently, Puka Nacua. Last season, with both Kupp and Nacua sidelined at times due to injury, Atwell stepped up, posting career highs with 42 receptions for 562 yards—though he did not record a touchdown.

However, he delivered a clutch postseason play. In the Rams’ divisional-round matchup against the Eagles on Jan. 19, Atwell secured an 18-yard reception with under four minutes remaining, setting up a touchdown pass to Colby Parkinson that narrowed the deficit to 28-22. The Rams ultimately fell short as the Eagles’ defense held on.

Set to become a free agent on Wednesday, Atwell is now locked in for another season, allowing the Rams to shift their focus to other key pieces, such as DeMarcus Robinson, if they choose.

Over his four-year career with Los Angeles, Atwell has amassed 99 receptions for 1,343 yards and four touchdowns. A former return specialist in college, he briefly held that role as a rookie but has not returned kicks since 2021.

Per Ian Rapoport, Atwell’s contract includes a $5 million base salary and a $5 million signing bonus, removing him from the free-agent market. His deal highlights a competitive receiver market that includes trade candidates like Kupp and DK Metcalf, as well as free agents such as Davante Adams, Tyler Lockett, Stefon Diggs, and Chris Godwin.
