Terry McLaurin 'Preparing' for New Roles in Commanders Offense

Commanders Signing Terry McLaurin Goal Addressed Openly By GM..

Last season cemented Terry McLaurin’s status as the Washington Commanders No. 1 pass catcher and as a top 10 receiver in the league, so it is time for the star to get his expected pay day.

The Washington Commanders have masterfully reconstructed their offense within the span of the year. They drafted Jayden Daniels last spring, making him the focal point of a new era of Commanders football.

Washington utilized offensive guru Kliff Kingsbury to elevate the rookie in a strong system while surrounding him with a number of playmakers out wide and in the backfield.

That process has not stopped with the successes of the 2024 campaign. Instead, the Commanders are pushing to take things a step further in 2025, evidenced in their acquisition of Deebo Samuel back in March.

But one guy has been here before the victory and glory. Terry McLaurin got to the Commanders during the old administration and back when the team was known as the “Redskins.”

He has stuck it out, showing nothing but excellence at the highest level. McLaurin has posted 1,000 yards in each of his last five seasons, having never finished with less than 900.

That performance and consistency means a big pay day is coming. The Commanders are on the clock to get a deal done with their star receiver whose three-year, $68.4 million deal expires after this season.

Washington’s general manager is fully aware of the situation, speaking on the matter back in March during the team’s pre-draft process.

“Love Terry [McLaurin], and we’ve had some really good conversations with his representatives,” he told Kay Adams. “We’re going to keep that in-house. But we want to make Terry a Commander for a long time.”

McLaurin’s next deal will impact and be reflective of the current wide receiver market. He may even break into the $30 million yearly threshold.

While it is not desperation time just yet, this is something the Commanders should get a move on this. The longer they wait, the more expensive he gets.

With the talent they have accumulated offensively and elsewhere on the roster, making this deal more expensive would be an ill-advised decision.

Commanders Terry McLaurin Predicted for Major Move In 2025..

Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin has made a name for himself as a consistent performer, but will that continue in 2025?

There are a lot of NFL players to marvel at, and one is Washington Commanders receiver Terry McLaurin.

Having been with the franchise for six years, McLaurin has been through some dark times with the franchise and a revolving door at quarterback, with the franchise failing to give him a genuine star at the position.

Still, McLaurin put up good numbers every season, with just once not surpassing 1,000 yards, and the one year he didn’t was his rookie season (919 yards).

Now having Jayden Daniels, McLaurin had a superb 2024 season, registering 1096 yards and a career-high 13 touchdowns, and that was in his first season with Daniels.

So, what can we expect in 2025?

ESPN’s Mike Clay, in his annual 2025 projections, has McLaurin again as a key feature of the offense.

McLaurin’s 2025 projections: 79 receptions, 1,054 yards, six touchdowns.

If “Scary Terry” does reach Clay’s projections, it would make it the sixth consecutive season in which he has surpassed that mark, and continue his career-long high standards.

Having developed a superb connection with Daniels last season, McLaurin will again be a focal point of Kliff Kingsbury’s offense, and going by Clay’s projections, it will be Terry who helps push the unit along.

Now, McLaurin’s stats don’t mean the Commanders are going to sweep the league like they did in 2024, but it does show the confidence McLaurin has to continue his high level of play for another season.

The Commanders are in win-now mode, and if McLaurin produces another 1,000-yard season, we think it’s a safe bet that Washington will again be playoff-bound.
