BREAKING NEWS: Former Celtics Player Reacts to Major Jayson Tatum News Concerning his….

Posted on June 9, 2025 by ADMIN

The NBA world continues to buzz following Jayson Tatum’s historic contract extension with the Boston Celtics — and now, one of the franchise’s beloved former players has weighed in with a powerful reaction.

Paul Pierce, Celtics legend and 2008 NBA Finals MVP, shared his thoughts on Tatum’s record-setting 5-year, $315 million supermax extension, which cements the All-Star forward as the highest-paid player in NBA history to date.

“That’s what I’m talkin’ about,” Pierce said in a video posted to Instagram Live. “JT staying in Boston? That’s legacy right there. That’s how you become one of the greats — not by ring-chasing, but by building something right where you are.”

“He’s Writing His Chapter in Green”

Pierce, known for his loyalty to the franchise and his own 15-year career with the Celtics, expressed admiration for how Tatum is handling the pressure of superstardom.

“This kid could’ve gone anywhere. But he stayed, just like I did. Just like Bird did. He’s writing his chapter in green — and believe me, it’s gonna be one for the history books.”

Pierce even hinted that Tatum’s commitment could put him in the same tier as Celtics immortals if he delivers more titles:

“Win one more, and the conversation changes. Win two or three? We start talkin’ about statues.”

Tatum’s Contract: A New Era

The extension, finalized earlier this week, locks Tatum in with Boston through the 2029–2030 season and sends a clear message: the Celtics are building a dynasty around their 26-year-old superstar. The deal comes on the heels of Tatum’s Finals MVP performance in 2024 and a deep playoff run this year.

NBA Community Reacts

Other former players, including Kendrick Perkins, Rajon Rondo, and Kevin Garnett, also chimed in. Garnett reposted Tatum’s announcement video with the caption:

“Legacy. Loyalty. Let’s go get them banners.”

What This Means for the Celtics

With Tatum committed long-term, the Celtics are poised to remain contenders for years. The leadership of Head Coach Joe Mazzulla, combined with Tatum’s growth and the supporting cast of Jaylen Brown and Kristaps Porziņģis, keeps Boston firmly in the championship conversation.
