Breaking: Jets Bypass Offensive Line In Favour Of Pass-Catching Stud
The New York Jets, under new head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, have put the wheels in motion to kickstart this new regime in a positive mindset in 2025.
Justin Fields is tasked with leading the franchise, and the coaching staff is reportedly “all-in” on what Justin can bring to Tanner Engstrand’s offense. However, the offensive line and the receiver position are two big needs.
Granted, for the offensive line, right tackle is the most problematic position, but as far as Fields’ weapons, right now it is Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall. That’s it (providing Allen Lazard moves on).
So, which way should the Jets go? Several mock drafts have the franchise taking tight end Tyler Warren from Penn State, and for Gilberto Manzano of Sports Illustrated, that’s exactly where the Jets go in his latest mock draft.
“Perhaps the smarter choice here is for the Jets to take an offensive lineman to fill their vacancy at right tackle,” Manzano writes. “But New York swapped a middle-aged Aaron Rodgers, who lacked mobility, for the ultra-athletic Justin Fields. Now imagine Fields often finding Warren for first downs while running away from the pocket. Adding a reliable pass catcher as good as Warren will give opposing defenses plenty to think about against a Jets backfield that features Fields and Breece Hall.”
Easily the best tight end in the draft, Warren moves like a receiver. Armed with good size and a mentality that Glenn will love, Warren loves physicality, often winning contested catches.
But such is his array of skills, he can get downfield in a hurry and can be found on all three levels, making him a good option for Fields in the passing game.
The Jets’ offensive line is a solid unit for the most part, but Fields lacks weapons. Getting Warren to pair with Wilson and Hall is a great start to Engstrand’s time in the Big Apple.
