Abner: “My first experience in Europe didn’t go the way I wanted”

Posted on September 28, 2024 by ISRAEL

The Brazilian left-back Abner Vinicius has been one of the great surprises of the last call for the senior team of Brazil. The player was transferred by the Real Betis last summer to Olympique Lyon for 8 million euros – half of which went to At. Paranaense-, although the Betic club keeps 20% of a future capital gain from a subsequent sale.

Abner, who did not succeed in the green and white club, despite the fact that he managed to displace Juan Miranda from the starting position in many games, referred in Lyon to his time at Betis: “My first experience in Europe didn’t go the way I wanted. I arrived with a different mentality than that of Betis. There is more stability here. I am with my family. “I was very well received by the staff and the players and all that helped my integration here in Lyon.”

Abner also spoke about the new role he has in the French team: “Against the Olympiacos We play with a 4-player pattern. I don’t have any particular preference. I will always do my best. I am lateral, but I am quite free and available. “I will always give my best no matter where the coach makes me play.”

He Olympique Lyonnais They are in the doldrums in Ligue 1, where they are fourth from bottom after five games – in all of them Abner has started – and the same 4 points as Montpellier, which occupies a relegation place, so they have greatly missed the call from former Bético, who will compete for the left-back position in the Brazilian team with Guilherme Arana, player who left Sevilla FC a few years ago: “I know the tradition of the Brazilians from Olympique de Lyon. It is a club that we talk a lot about in Brazil. I know Bruno Guimarães very well, with whom I played and who left very good memories here in Lyon”.

The Brazilian coach, Dorival Jrexplained the following about Abner’s call for the World Cup qualifying matches against Chile and Peru on October 10 and 15: “He is a boy who was our athlete a few years ago at Atlético Paranaense, he went up and had a special moment ”.
