A clear warning has been issued to the Steelers over their choice involving Russell Wilson.

Posted on March 13, 2025 by ADMIN

The Pittsburgh Steelers bolstered their offense by acquiring wide receiver DK Metcalf, but the team still hasn’t locked in a quarterback to throw him the ball.

Reports suggest that the Steelers have been in talks with Aaron Rodgers, whose two-year stint with the New York Jets officially ended on Wednesday with his release. Rodgers also has interest from the New York Giants, with no clear indication of when he plans to make a decision.

This could put the Steelers in a tough spot, according to some sources. If Rodgers opts to sign elsewhere, Pittsburgh might look to bring back veteran Russell Wilson, but they may need to act quickly. As Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk pointed out, Wilson has also drawn interest from other teams and could sign before the Steelers come to a decision with Rodgers.

Florio cautioned that the Steelers could find themselves in quarterback limbo, much like they did in 2019 after Ben Roethlisberger’s injury.

“Wilson’s upcoming visits to the Browns and Giants raise the stakes for the Steelers,” Florio wrote. “If Wilson signs elsewhere, Rodgers becomes the priority. But if Rodgers chooses another team, the Steelers could be left with the Mason Rudolph/Duck Hodges plan.”

Nick Farabaugh of PennLive.com also emphasized the growing pressure on the Steelers, with Wilson likely holding the upper hand in the situation.

“Wilson is beginning to leverage the Steelers and other teams as he makes his decision,” Farabaugh wrote. “He won’t lack leverage if the Steelers miss out on Rodgers. The Browns already traded for Kenny Pickett as they search for competition.”
